Deadline nears for ordering museum bricks

Published/Last Modified on Monday, February 16, 2004 7:33 PM CST

FRANKLINTON — There is excitement at Washington Parish's Varnado Store Museum as commemorative bricks, long in the planning, will soon be set at the museum patio area.

The patio, located between the old general store and the new office/meeting building, will be covered with bricks engraved with messages and names. These bricks will make lasting memorials and honorariums.

Those who would like to be in on the initial engraving and setting of the bricks, should get orders in soon. Bricks may be in honor of someone, in memory of someone, a family or individual name, club name, churches, schools or reunion class.

A special section of the patio will honor veterans, and the veteran bricks will be shaped in the form of a "V". To add to the beauty of the area, a fountain is also planned.

The bricks are on sale now.

The bricks are four inches by eight inches and will cost $45 each. Engraving will include three lines, 16 spaces each line. The space between words and any punctuation will count as one space each. Forms for ordering are located in the museum at 936 Pearl St., just behind the courthouse. They can be picked up any weekend, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Sundays from 1-4 p.m.. Someone at the museum will assist in the lettering, if desired.

The money raised by the bricks will be used to help fund educational exhibits and displays in the museum for coming years as museum volunteers seek to continue to work and preserve local heritage and history.

For more information, please contact chairperson, Claire McGuire 848 - 2957, the museum at 795-0680, or any member of the museum board of directors.

Checks and orders can be mailed to Bricks, Varnado Store Museum, P.O. Box 184, Franklinton, LA 70438.
