Lewis is candidate for W-ST board of directors

FRANKLINTON — Levi Lewis Sr. has announced his candidacy for the Washington-St. Tammany Electric Cooperative's Board of Directors.

A resident of Varnado, Lewis is married to Katherine Nichols Lewis and the couple has three children and six grandchildren.

A 1962 graduate of Wesley Ray High School, he holds a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from Southern University and a master's degree in vocational education from Southern.

He served as director of Louisiana Technical College — Sidney N. Collier Campus in New Orleans for 22 years. He was also an instructor at Evangeline Area Technical College in St. Martinville for 12 years and was a regional coordinator and assistant director in the LA Technical College System.

Lewis is affiliated with the LA Directors Association, the LA Vocational Association and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in addition to other professional organizations.

A member of Mary's Chapel United Methodist Church in Varnado, Lewis has served on the pastor parish relations committee, as a lay leader, substitute Sunday school teacher and has been active in many other church-related capacities.

His civic affiliations include chairing the Martin Luther King Parade in the Angie/Varnado community and work through the Concerned Citizens Association, Prince hall Grand Lodge and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity among others.

Ballots for the Co-operative's election are to be mailed out this week, Lewis said.
