FEMA trailers being returned in poor shape

Published/Last Modified on Monday, January 8, 2007 8:46 AM CST

Granted that the travel trailers FEMA has supplied to persons needing a place to live are the best in the world, but many being sent back from Bogalusa are said to have been "wrecked" by those who lived in them.

Even now, you can drive down some streets and see trailers with windows hanging loose, screens flapping and doors off the hinges - just like the traditional houses they are sitting next to.

Consider that persons who have purchased similar trailers for their own use seem to be able to make them last for years when these, in many cases made by the same manufacturers, won't. Do you wonder why?

What about the difference in someone paying for something and caring enough to take care of it and someone getting something without cost and not giving a darn?

It's because it's "free" and part of the so-called entitlement many who would damage or destory public property feel is owed them.

Of course, these trailers do have a cost and Bogalusa's taxpayers will start chipping in a bit more as they pay their federal taxes this year.

Nothing's free ... and we all pay except those who don't give a darn.
