Margie Mae Burris

FRANKLINTON - Margie Mae Burris, age 100, a resident of Franklinton, died Friday, Feb. 1 in Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She was the mother of five generations.
She is survived by two daughters, Lee B. White and Bessie Burris Littleton, both of New Orleans; four sons, O'neal Burris of Rosedale, Miss., Gentris Burris of Mt. Hermon, Anderson "Jake" Burris of Bogalusa and Larry J. Burris Sr. of Franklinton; one sister, Vanilla Watts of Franklin ton; three brothers, Charles Long of New Orleans, Kermit Long of Franklinton and James Long of Los Angeles, Calif.; 28 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Crain and Sons Funeral Home, Franklinton today from 3 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. in Bethel Church of Christ Holiness, USA. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.
Jewette Willeta Fisher

LAUREL, Miss. - Jewette Willeta "Judy" Fisher, age 76, died Friday, Feb. 1 in
South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Born Dec. 22,
1931 in Bogalusa, she was a long time resident of Milne Home for Girls previously located in New Orleans. The home was reestablished in Laurel due to destruction from Hurricane Katrina.
She is survived by two sisters, Bobbie Jean Carter of Bogalusa and Carolyn (Lee A) Hunt of Longview, Texas; three nieces, Pam
Capdeboscq of Westlake, La., Tammy (Terry) Stewart of Bogalusa and Toiee (Johnny) Rushing of Carthage, Texas; one nephew, Randy (Deonna) Hunt of Colorado; numerous great nieces and nephews, many close family members, friends and many special friends and caregivers at Milne.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Oca and Edna Fisher; an infant brother; and a brother-in-law, Jeppy Carter Jr.
A graveside service was held on Monday, Feb.4 at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Hunt and the Rev. Bryan Kershaw officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Milne Home for Girls in memory of Jewette Fisher, 616 East 19th Street, Laurel, MS 39440.

BOGALUSA - Archie Greely, age 77, a resident of Bogalusa, died Thursday, Feb. 7 in LSU Bogalusa Medical Center.

COVINGTON - Rosalie "Rosie" Hand Knight, a longtime resident of Mandeville, died at her home on Monday, Feb. 4. She was co-owner of T-Rivers in Madisonville and an active member of the Mandeville Rotary Club and Madisonville Chamber of Commerce.
She was the mother of Tonia Knight Villere; mother-in-law of Eddie M. Villere; sister of Walter Keith and James Hand; and sister-in-law of Heidi Hand.
Visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation continued today at 12:30 p.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Internment will be in the Mandeville Cemetery.

FRANKLINTON - Lawrence Magee, age 71, died Sunday, Feb. 3 at his residence in Slidell.
He is survived by two sisters, Rita Hawthorne of Franklinton and Bess Lynette Cockrell of Houston, Texas; five brothers, Gervis Watson, Woodie Watson and Larry "Bron" Watson, all of Franklinton, Sylvester Johnson of Houston, Texas and Hilton Byrd of Atlanta, Ga.
Visitation will be Friday Feb. 8 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home, Franklinton. The funeral service will be Saturday, Feb. 9 at 9:30 a.m. in Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Slidell. The Rev. Cedelo Raggs will officiate, with interment following in Sweet Home Cemetery.
Joe Edgar Miley

BOGALUSA - Joe Edgar Miley, age 98, a resident of Bogalusa, died Thursday, Feb. 7 in LSU Bogalusa Medical Center. He was retired from Crown-Zellerbach paper mill after 36 years of service, a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Varnado Masonic Lodge, a devoted father and his daughters' best friend.
He is survived by five daughters, Bertha (Clyde) Moody, Lucille Corlello, Josie M. Wolfshohl, Betty Joe (Milton) Saba and Bobbie Miley, all of Bogalusa; one sister, Lela Davis of Bogalusa; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Della Simmons Miley; one son, Charles E. Miley; five brothers, B.J., Martin, Artis, Houston and Ezra Miley; two sisters, Lorena Pierce and Lela Facundus; and his parents, Lon and Eliza Adams Miley.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 9 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Sunday, Feb. 10 at noon until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Mark Whitehead and the Rev. Donnie Broome will officiate, with interment following in the Lon Miley Memorial Cemetery, Bogalusa.
Ruth Thelma Peters
(Died Feb. 2, 2008)
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Ruth Thelma Peters, a resident of Los Angeles and a former resident of Bogalusa, died Saturday, Feb. 2 in Los Angeles.
"Momma Ruby", as she is affectionately called, was a licensed vocational nurse with a heart of compassion, who mothered and cared for many, many people in her lifetime. She was a true missionary.
She was the mother of Gayle, Bernard, Barbara, Patricia, Priscilla, Ernestine, Gwendolyn, Vincent, Ronald, Donald and Michael.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m., at Calvary
Christian Fellowship Church, 2400 West 85th Street. Interment will follow at Inglewood Cemetery, Sanctuary of the Sunset. Pastor L. C. Williams from Another Praise and Prayer Center will officiate.
A repast celebration will follow at Calvary Christian Fellowship Church.
Laura Mae Herring Pugh

BOGLAUSA - Laura Mae Herring Pugh, formerly of Bogalusa and a resident of Pine, died Tuesday, Feb. 5 in St. Tammany Parish Hospital at the age of 83. She was a longtime member of Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Glenn (Jeanette) Lowe of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Carol (Gibson) Galloway of Pine; a sister, Josie Faye (Tom) Jones of Franklinton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcus and Flora Herring; six brothers, Frank Herring, Pete Herring, Stanley Herring, John Herring, Clarence Herring and Cassie Herring; and two sisters, Tiny Regan and Dixie McKenzie.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 5 to 10 p.m. at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home. The funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bryan Kershaw and the Rev. Dennis Allen officiating.
Interment followed in Ponemah Cemetery.
Anita L. Smith

FRANKLINTON - Anita L. Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 6 at her residence in Franklinton.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home, continuing on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m.
Interment will follow at Murray Hill Cemetery in the Ford's Creek community, Poplarville, Miss.

Walter Earl Stringer

BOGALUSA - Walter Earl Stringer, age 76, a resident of Varnado, died Tuesday, Feb. 5 in St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington.
He served in Korea with the U.S. Army and was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Varnado. For a number of years he worked at the Little Village Store in Varnado and also at the Angie Lumber Company.
He is survived by two sons, Billy Earl Stringer and Gregory Allen Stringer of Varnado; one daughter, Tera Stringer of Varnado; and one grandson, Logan Crain of Bogalusa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Marie Stringer; his parents, Ben and Lois Stringer; and a sister, Thelma Knapp.
Visitation was held at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Visitation continued today at 8 a.m. until time for the funeral service in the chapel at 2 p.m.
The Rev. John Claypool officiated, with interment following in the Seal Cemetery at Varnado.
