When a Bogalusa resident noticed that the small group of men walking down West 10th Street Sunday night included one carrying an air conditioner on his shoulder and another pulling a larger unit in a wagon, he or she figured it might be a good idea to call the police to come check the guys out. They did. And although the guys weren’t hitchhiking, they ended up getting a ride-to the police station where they were charged with various offenses.

Bogalusa Police Department (BPD) Capt. Joe Culpepper said Joseph Daigle, 20, 601 Huron Ave., Jeremy Kirkland, 19, No. 36 Bogue Apartments and Jeramie Young, 17, 1009 Avenue E, “went crazy over the weekend.”

The story began to come to light shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday, when officers Charles McDaniel and Chad Cassard made contact with the three who were walking down the street with the air conditioners, he said.

“When the officers began questioning the subjects, they determined the air conditioners were stolen out of a house in the 1100 block of West Ninth Street,” said Culpepper. “As the investigation continued, they found that in addition to taking the air conditioners, they had also stolen a golf cart and a go-cart from the 700 block of West Fifth Street, burglarized the concession stand at the airport ball field, broke into another house in the 1300 block of West Ninth Street and burglarized a house in the 900 block of Avenue K.”

Those incidents all took place either Saturday, Sept. 20 or Sunday, Sept. 21.

But while he was being questioned by police, Daigle reportedly also “came clean” about an earlier offense, the robbery of an elderly woman on Aug. 24.

“In August, a woman called and said she had been robbed at gunpoint at her Landmark apartment,” said Culpepper. “She gave the officer a physical description, including that the guy was wearing a ski mask. She said he robbed her of her purse, including her wallet. But when she asked him to give her wallet back, he did, after he took all the money out of it.”

Daigle was charged with first degree robbery, two counts of theft over $500, three counts of burglary, two counts of theft under $300 and possession of marijuana.

Kirkland was charged with two counts of theft over $500, two counts of burglary and two counts of theft under $300.

Young was charged with two counts of theft under $300 and possession of marijuana.

" More citizens need to look out for criminals that are stealing for the good people of Bogalusa. Most of these criminals are breaking in homes and stealing vehicle parts and robbing folks in broad daylight. Let's all make it out business to patrol our streets and call 911 when we see shady behavior. Don't forget, whats happening to your neighbor could one day happen to you! I have hade property stolen from my home doing daylight hours on multiple occcassions and never have my neighbors reporting seeing anything... this " It didn't happen to me" attitude has to stop! "
